FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions couples ask us

issho is built on shared accountability: a neutral place where each of you is represented, and where the household becomes something you look at together instead of argue about. We had ADHD in mind while building it, and couples with no neurodivergent partner have told us the same idea helps them. If your question is not here, ask us directly.

The basics

What is issho?

issho is an iOS app that carries the household mental load for couples. Instead of one partner doing the remembering, the planning and the nudging, the app does it. We designed it with ADHD in mind, and the name is Japanese for "together".

What is the idea behind issho?

Shared accountability. issho gives each partner a place to be represented as an individual, and gives both of you common ground to talk from. When the work is visible and neutral, a conversation about the household stops being an accusation. You end up looking at the same picture instead of at each other, which is how the heated arguments get avoided.

Who is issho for?

Couples who live together and share a household. It is built for both sides of the dynamic at once: the partner who is exhausted from managing everything, and the partner who wants to help but cannot seem to get started. Neither role is the villain.

Do we need to have ADHD to use issho?

No. We had people with ADHD in mind while building it, but we noticed that couples with no neurodivergent partner benefit from the same idea. If the mental load in your home has quietly landed on one set of shoulders, the concept applies whether or not anyone has a diagnosis.

Is issho just another chore app?

No. Chore apps assume the hard part is knowing what to do and agreeing who does it. Very often knowing was never the problem, starting is. issho does the reminding itself, breaks tasks into 2 to 5 minute steps, and adapts to your energy that day.

Does issho work if only one of us has ADHD?

Yes, and that is the most common case. The app is designed for the mixed dynamic specifically, where one partner has become the household manager and the other has become the managed. It gives both of you a neutral place to stand.

Does issho work if both of us have ADHD?

Yes. When nobody is holding the load, it tends to fall on the floor instead of on a person. issho becomes the external memory that neither of you has to be, and body doubling tends to matter even more in this case.

My partner will not download another app. Will this actually work?

This is the most honest question we get. issho only helps if both of you are in it, so the setup takes under two minutes and there is nothing to configure or maintain. But if your partner is not willing, no app fixes that, and we would rather be straight with you.

How it works

What is the energy check-in?

A 30 second daily check-in where you tap one of five energy levels. Low energy surfaces only micro-tasks, like wiping a counter or putting one thing away. High energy unlocks the bigger jobs. The plan adapts to your brain rather than the other way around.

What are AI micro-steps?

Type something like "clean the bathroom" and issho breaks it into concrete 2 to 5 minute steps. It removes the planning stage, which is exactly where ADHD executive function stalls. There is nothing to prepare, so you can just start.

What is photo-to-tasks?

When a room is so messy that you freeze, photograph it. issho returns 3 to 5 tasks with effort levels and micro-steps already attached. It turns "I cannot even look at this" into a plan in a few seconds.

What are body doubling and co-clean?

Body doubling means working alongside someone so the starting is easier. Start a focus timer and your partner can join instantly. A co-clean goes further: pick tasks, set a timer, work through them together, and earn a shared team bonus at the end.

How does issho make invisible work visible?

Mental labour like grocery lists, vet appointments and coordinating the plumber gets tracked and valued as real work, not as a favour. Both partners see the full picture, so the person carrying it stops having to argue that it exists. That shared picture is what makes accountability mutual rather than one-sided.

Will issho nag me?

It is quiet by default. Reminders come from the app rather than from your partner, which is the entire point: a reminder from a person arrives with a history attached, and lands like a verdict. From an app, it is just information.

What happens if we stop using it for a week?

Nothing bad. There are no streaks to break. Completing tasks grows a shared garden, and when you come back after a hard week it is exactly where you left it. A bad week should not hand you proof that you failed.

Practical questions

Is issho free?

Yes. issho is free to download, you do not need an account to look around, and the shared household is free to use. The AI features are included for free up to a usage limit. If you want unlimited AI use, there is a subscription, billed through the Apple App Store.

What does the issho Premium subscription actually get me?

Unlimited use of the AI features: breaking tasks into micro-steps, and turning a photo of a room into a plan. You can use both for free up to a limit, so you can find out whether they actually help you before deciding to pay for them.

Is issho available on Android?

Not yet. issho is on iOS today, and Android is planned. If you want to be told when it lands, the fastest way is to reach us through the support page.

Is my data private?

Your household data is shared between you and your partner, and nobody else. Analytics are anonymous. The full detail of what is collected and why is in the privacy policy, written to be read rather than to be survived.

Is issho a replacement for ADHD treatment or couples therapy?

No. issho is a household system, not a clinical tool. It does not diagnose, it does not treat, and it does not replace therapy or medication. If the dynamic at home has reached real distress, please talk to a professional.

The mental load needs a home. Not a person.

Free to download. No account needed to look around.
